A well grounded and holistic start in education sets your child up for successful life long learning. At Footprints Early Learning Centre our goal is simple: to help every child leave Footprints feeling capable, confident and ready for their next adventure.
Getting ready for school starts from the moment your child enrols. We believe school readiness is about much more than knowing letters and numbers. It is about developing the confidence, independence, physical skills and social abilities children need to feel capable and ready to learn.
Through intentional teaching and resources, meaningful relationships and lots of opportunities to play, explore and practise, our integrated “Getting Ready for School Programme” nurtures six essential skills:
1. Independence – “I can do it!”
Children develop self-awareness and learn to take responsibility for themselves, their belongings and everyday routines.
2. Core & Grip Strength – “My body is ready to learn.”
Through natural unfolding, active play and hands-on experiences, children build the strength and coordination needed to sit comfortably, use scissors, hold pencils and participate in classroom activities.
3. Focus – “I can listen and be present.”
Children practise sustaining their attention, giving and receiving attention, following directions and being present within themselves and in their learning.
4. Confidence – “I know what I need.”
We encourage children to recognise their needs, express themselves and confidently ask for help when they need it.
5. Recognising Their Name – “I know what belongs to me.”
Recognising their own name helps children identify their belongings, care for their things and develop an important sense of ownership and responsibility.
6. Play – “I learn through doing.”
Play brings all these skills together. Children develop language, directional understanding, problem-solving, cooperation, negotiation and the social skills needed to work through conflict and build friendships.
